Of all the traditional sarees in India worn by Bengali women, the most common one is the tant saree. Tant sarees are Bengal cotton sarees which were traditionally woven by the weavers of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Dhaka and Tangail, places in Bangladesh are famous for their characteristically different tant sarees. Tant sarees, being the most comfortable of all Bengal cotton sarees were incorporated into daily use because of its softness and transparency. Handwoven and lately with the help of machines, typical tant sarees are entirely woven from cotton and usually have a broad border and a decorative pallu stylised in gold or silver threadwork.
