White Or Off Tant Saree
Another variety of Bengal cotton sarees famously celebrated amongst all sarees in India is the jamdani saree. The jamdani saree is the one of the most famous, elegant and magnificent. Heavily borrowed from the Mughal era, jamdani sarees feature motifs inspired from the Persian culture. Diamonds, buttis, emeralds and various other motifs adorn the jamdani saree. Jamdani sarees are of various kinds depending on the areas from where they originated such as the Dhakai Jamdani, Tangail Jamdani, Dhonekhali Jamdani and the Shantipur Jamdani. Jamdani sarees have brilliant shades and combinations and these Bengal cotton sarees have many artistic floral and geometric designs.
Of all the traditional sarees in India worn by Bengali women, the most common one is the tant saree. Tant sarees are Bengal cotton sarees which were traditionally woven by the weavers of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Dhaka and Tangail, places in Bangladesh are famous for their characteristically different tant sarees. Tant sarees, being the most comfortable of all Bengal cotton sarees were incorporated into daily use because of its softness and transparency. Handwoven and lately with the help of machines, typical tant sarees are entirely woven from cotton and usually have a broad border and a decorative pallu stylised in gold or silver threadwork.
