TASSAR, MATKA AND DUPION SILK

Bhagalpur in Bihar is the hub of silk industry. The best known silk in Bhagalpur is “Tussah” which is said to be tussar silk. Matka is also woven in Bhagalpur and suburbs.

Basically, there four types of silk. Mulberry silk, Tussar silk, Muga silk and Eri silk.

These are known as pure silk, prevalent in India. At least 12 different silk textiles are produced from these four silks.

“Matka” silk is also one of its kinds of fabric produced by natural silk.

Motka silk is rough and un-uniform; hence the fabric has tweed in texture and having outstanding natural beauty.

Other very popular fabric is “Dupion Silk”. Dupion silk is made from twin silk warm or double cocoons, which creates the fabric very unusual and beautiful looking due to its tiny specks and streaks in the fabric it becomes shimmering and the choice of two different colours of rough silk fiber helps to create crisp drape quality to the finished fabric.

In same way Dupion silk is a bit different because it tends to resist wrinkles which help to enhance the utility of the finished fabric. It has a tendency to take crease very well, which can give the final product a crisp and formal appearance and as an added bonus it is entirely reversible, so it is perfectly acceptable for both sides of the material to be visible.

It is low in price and colored in vibrant colors. It is used in sarees furnishing and formal wears. Check out our exclusive collection of elegant Tassar silk sarees and purchase at a great price.
